Our Family

Scott & Charity
Ages: Nobody needs to know! ;D
Birthdates: 4/5 & 10/16
Anniversary: 4/20/96
We met in September 1992 and were friends for two years before we began to date in October 1994. We were engaged on July 4, 1995 and married nine months later. Now, 19 years later, we are still so very much in love and excited about the next step of this journey together. Like any marriage, we have had obstacles thrown at us, but God has brought us through every one and we know He has great plans for our family as we answer His call to Missions and follow His direction. We were in Costa Rica for one year learning Spanish and in Venezuela for 18 months before having to return to the U.S. in order to obtain Religious Visas. We are now itinerating in preparation to return to Venezuela once our Visas are granted. When we return, we will continue the work we started in Caracas in one of the schools in our local community, teaching values as we share the Word of God with love, laughter, singing, dancing and dramas. We have a great team along with our kids and love that they are with us to help serve the least of these in Venezuela.

Malachi Phillip (Malaquias Felipe)
Age: 17
Birthdate: 3/22/98
Grade: 12th
Malachi is just starting his senior year in high school and is looking forward to taking driver's education now that we are back in the U.S. He still enjoys technology of any sort, and has entered the text phase of life. While living in Caracas, he played the piano for the youth band and occasionally for adult worship. He also is our tech guy when we serve in the school, taking photos and videos. Hearing him worship is such a delight and his desire is to pursue missions as his life-calling. He continues to keep us entertained with all his voices and re-enactments of favorite movie and tv scenes.

Moriah Faith (Moraya Fe)
Age: 15 (almost)
Birthdate: 8/13/00
Grade: 10th
Moriah can always be found reading a book, now on her iPad Mini, since we couldn't bring all her 'paper' books with her. She is a beautiful singer, when we can get her to sing for us and plays beatifully on the piano. She also sings occasionally for youth band and adult service. As our church in Caracas is International, they like to sing at least one English chorus each week and she enjoys helping them learn the words. She enjoys loving on the little ones in the school and helping in any way she can. She enjoys sitting with them and hugging on each one as they come and go each week. Her sarcasm is one of her best qualities and she enjoys using it the most on her brothers, which they often deserve! ;D

Micah Elias (Miqueas Elias)
Age: 14 (almost)
Birthdate: 8/22/01
Grade: 9th
Micah and Moriah are 1 year and 9 days apart and they are as tight as if they were twins, although I wouldn't recommend getting between them when they do fight. They will both turn on you in a moment. ;D Micah is a soccer lover, both playing and watching. He enjoys playing futbol with the kids here in Venezuela. He might look like a gringo, but he plays like a latino! A gentleman at the kids school in Costa Rica told Micah (after seeing him play soccer) that he had a gift and he should use it. He is doing just that in Caracas as he plays for Deportiva La Guiara and shares his friendship and faith with his fellow futbolistas. They have nicknamed him "Gringo," and he loves it. He continues to get funnier every day. If Malachi is not entertaining us, then Micah is cracking us up, while Moriah cracks on them both. Our house is quite the riot! Micah is our resident singer, dancer, comedian in the school and is such a great asset to our team.

Matthew Stephen (Mateo Esteban)
Age: 11
Birthdate: 9/8/03
Grade: 6th
Matthew still loves to build with legos and is usually found hard at work building something for his super heros to destroy. We are so glad that we allowed him to bring an entire box full with him as we are not able to find Legos often in Venezuela. Occasionally, we will find a small box set, but the cost is usually pretty high. All three boys brought their light-sabers and at times, we still see them playing together in the back-yard. He already has a battle scar from serving in Venezuela. His leg was cut open from a small, but very sharp piece of metal, and he received 6 stitches at the hospital. He is such a sweetheart when it comes to the children in the school. He loves on them and sings and plays with them every week.

Merci Hope (Misericordia Esperanza)
Age: 8
Birthdate: 10/9/06
Grade: 3rd
Merci is still ALL-girl. We love how she completes our family and our team. She loves her dolls and dressing-up and can usually be found doing some type of gymnastic flip wherever she is in the house. She was such a wonderful helper as we served in the school in Caracas, loving on the kids and handing out candy and singing along with the family. She has experienced quite the return-culture-shock as she has walked through stores in the U.S. seeing the over-abundance of things like cereal, something we don't find much of in Venezuela. Even while we have been driving in the midst of U.S. traffic, she doesn't understand why we can't use the emergency lane or even the grass on the shoulder to get around the stand-stills. :D

Our entire family is looking forward to returning to serve the children of Venezuela as soon as we possibly can. Thank you for taking the time to read about our family and praying for our speedy return!
